“Honest storytelling is like a mammoth detangling session. It takes time, technique and a wide-tooth comb to navigate through our experiences as women of colour; because we are multi-layered, tonal and rich with ample texture. ”
I created the texture lounge out of my need to learn what it took for the women and creators of colour I admire, to take that bold leap beyond the tipping point, in favor of the life they could only dream of. Whether that be leaving a comfortable corporate job to start our own businesses; or shedding the community shame of cultural taboos by deciding to play an active role in the choices affecting our reproductive health; or, turning away from a life of body shaming to develop the art of self-belief and self-love; or, unlearning the historical societal norms we are so unfortunately used to, in order to rewrite and amplify truer and newer narratives.
The lumps of gold that I have personally mined through these INTIMATE experiences, since creating this theoretical lounge, have ignited several flames of ambition within me, to know, seek, do and be better.
